MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Police in Murfreesboro have charged a man with raping a teenage boy and exposing him to HIV.
Investigators say Michael Wayne McElderry was a friend of the 15-year-old victim's mother.
Detective Todd Sparks says the mother reported seeing McElderry performing a sex act on her sleeping son Monday and screamed.
The boy told investigators the 6-foot-3 man had performed unprotected sex acts on him four times since February.
Sparks says McElderry confirmed he has tested positive for HIV -- the virus that causes AIDS.
The detective says he suspects there are other victims and hopes they come forward. But even if they don't, Sparks hopes any others will go to doctors to be tested for HIV.
McElderry is charged with four counts each of statutory rape and criminal exposure to HIV.
