To Catch a Big Mouth

Benjamin Radford is a self-proclaimed "critical thinker", "research journalist", editor of The Skeptical Enquirer and author of a couple of very strange books and articles. I say strange because in Media Mythmakers he attempts to prove

"the ways in which deception is used in various media to influence decision making and public policy"

While I know for a fact that media is sometimes deceptive I know something else as well, and that is the fact that Benjamin Radford is committing the same types of errors he's accusing the mainstream media of.

Radford's specialty is disproving things that cannot be disproven by using his so-called "critical thinking skills". The problem is: he forgot to use them.

Radford recently appeared on Americans Reality Check to promote his book and spread his propaganda. He believes the American people are lazy and incapable of thinking things through on their own. I find it strange that he believes news journalists influence the way people think while claiming they aren't doing their jobs if they don't tell them what to think.

"Should you take aspirin daily to ward off a heart attack? Aspirin makers say yes. Others say that there isn't enough evidence that it's effective. Who do you believe? Presumably the journalist presenting a story will tell you-unless he or she is bound by agnostic objectivity, in which case you'll get both sides and a shrug."

I suppose I'm incapable of "thinking critically" because I fail to see why anyone would expect a journalist to analyze conflicting medical information and then tell people what the correct answer is....when he can't possibly know what the correct answer is. All he can really do is state his opinion and influence people - whether or not he's right.

Radford claims that since he's a "research journalist" he thoroughly researched his topic aware that what he wrote would be controversial. So I'm a little confused here as to how he came up with his conclusion that recidivism for sex offenders is very low. For a critical thinker he made the same mistake as so many pedophile activists do - taking the DOJ recidivism report at face value and failing to question or analyze the results.

Radford also holds tight to his belief that Megan's Law is ineffective. He bases this on the fact that he didn't find anything that said it was, and on his misinformed belief that the very premise of the law was faulty. He believes that Megan's family KNEW about the violent rapist living on their street, and yet none of the neighbors knew. It appears he didn't do his research. Nor did he read the Minnesota study regarding the effectiveness of Megan's Law (community notification). Which said:

"community notification reduced the risk of time to rearrest by 84 percent, reconviction by 89 percent, and reincarceration by 93 percent"

In addition to proliferating their misinterpretation of David Finkelhor's Internet Predator report, just like Cheryl Griffiths - he took this

to mean that either internet predators don't exist or that it's somehow acceptable to exploit minors - as long as you seduce them, groom them and aren't physically violent I suppose.

Benji dazzled the sex offenders with amazing feats of distorted critical thinking and factoid production. For example he believes that the sex offender registry does nothing to protect children, he bases this primarily on two things. One being the fact that most offenders are known to their victims and Two being the myth that sex offenders don't re-offend.

However, he fails to realize that a sex offender registry was never about 'strangers'. It is the very fact that offenders ARE known to their victims which makes the registry such a valuable tool. Nobody could memorize every person on the registry to be able to know them if they saw them on the street, however, they can absolutely know NOT to bring these monsters into their home.

Radford believes that those on the registry were convicted of minor crimes - he knows this for a fact because --- people who commit bad crimes go to prison for long periods of time. Listen:

How does that compare to Michael Jacques who raped a 13 year old girl, then an 18 year old girl, negotiated a plea deal - had the first rape expunged from his record, served a miniscule sentence and convinced a judge to let him off supervision several years early because he was a "probation success story" - even though he was sexually assaulting a child at the time........and continued to for the next 5 years. Is Jacques an exception?

Or how about John Couey? Another registered sex offender who went on to kidnap a child from her bed then rape her repeatedly for days and then bury her alive. Is he an exception?

Joseph Duncan raped a 9 year old boy at gunpoint when he was only 15 years old and stated that he had committed 13 rapes by the time he was 16. He was sentenced as a juvenile and went on a few years later to do the same to other kids. This time he served 14 years of a 20 year sentence, got out and immediately molested a 6 year old boy. The judge let him out on bail. And we all know what happened then, don't we? He's responsible for the deaths of at least 7 people. Is Duncan an exception? He said he wasn't in his sex offender propaganda he wrote. The propaganda that mirrors exactly the rhetoric of the current sex offender activist groups. In fact, he wrote

The truth is that I am not an exception, I am the rule! Most sex offenders are just like me

What about Jim Freeman, the one-time leader of the largest pro-sex offender activist group on the internet. Was he an exception? Or Jon Schillaci, or Johnny Ray Lee, how about Corey Deen Saunders who raped a 6 year old in the library after a judge refused to civilly commit him? Are they exceptions?

Sex offender activists who talk out both sides of their mouth claim men like this should have never been released in the first place. They say this while demanding an end to civil confinement and long prison sentences. So how are these people exceptional to them? Because they know NOW what they were capable of? When do you think they reached that conclusion? Certainly not before they created more victims.

Sex offender coddlers frequently demand that we realize how easy it is to end up being labeled a sex offender. They say things like "It could happen to anybody". The truth is entirely different of course. You don't sexually assault someone, groom and molest a child, or join the "greatest group of pedos" by accident. It is not something that "happens to you". But we do know that people are sexually offended against every single day, those are the people that something "happened to", we can see obviously, how easy it is to be sexually assaulted or have your child abused by a freak.

"Is this a serious problem? I mean, come on, the average child is far more likely to be killed in a car accident on the freeway than to be molested by some sex offender, so put these things in perspective."

Perspective?

In 2007 there were 41,259 traffic fatalities - this includes adults and children.

Every 13 minutes someone dies in a car accident.

In 2007 there were 248,000 victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault. (This figure DOES NOT include victims 12 years old and younger)

34% of all victims of sexual assault reported to law enforcement were under the age of 12.

Every 2 minutes someone in the United States is sexually assaulted.....not including children.

Now besides the obvious things wrong with his statements, I would strongly suggest that Mr. Radford is out of his league. Police Chiefs and Supreme Court Justices do not make the law, they never have and they never will as long as America's system of government continues. There are three branches of government, the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. They function within a system of checks and balances. The primary function of the Supreme Court is not to analyze studies and reports and then make a determination of which they believe. Their function is to interpret the constitution despite what this critical thinking idiot believes. How embarrassing.

Mr Radford needs to go back to disproving Big Foot, or ghosts and ghoulies and other pretend monsters because he very successfully stuck a big foot in a very big mouth. There are over 40 millions survivors of very real monsters in America today. The monsters DO exist, survivors have lived to tell about it and we applaud their strength and courage for speaking up....despite the constant barrage of blaming, mocking and denial from such shallow thinking fools as Benjamin Radford.

This suppressed study - available here - and kept top secret from the American public on the world wide web.... tells quite a different story than Cheryl and Derek Logue's distorted interpretations. It says that 97% of solicitations were by strangers, 48% by minors, 24% were regarded as "very or extremely upsetting or frightening" and 49% were not reported. The study also concluded that the offenders only pretended to be teenagers 5% of the time and still "identities are easy to disguise on the internet so the solicitors may not have been the age or gender they claimed to be"

While we know that children who have previously been abused make the easiest targets, Cheryl seems to regard it as acceptable as long as it is they who are the targeted victims.

Contrary to Tikibug's assertion that the government has no right to tell someone when they are old enough to have sex, and Walter Howard's claim that children "need to be taught how to love" This study says:

"Youths need candid, direct discussions about seduction and how some adults deliberately evoke and then exploit the compelling feelings that sexual arousal can induce. Even young adolescents should be given basic information about the inappropriateness of romantic advances from adults. This information should include reassurances that it is normal to have strong sexual feelings but wrong for adults to provoke or exploit these feelings, especially with youths who are inexperienced in coping with sexual desire and intimate relationships"

Another key finding;

"A considerable number of online child molesters also possess child pornography and child pornography production is an important element in many cases, including situations where offenders solicit victims to produce sexual images of themselves"

Nationwide, federal prosecutors have indicted 2,289 defendants in online child solicitation and pornography cases this year. But I suppose Cheryl Griffiths would agree with the bold idiocy of Zman when he said

They could be protecting the country with their hacking skills or something, yet they want to go after defenseless child predators

The Justice Department's Project Safe Childhood has launched a new National Public Awareness Campaign. They've produced some amazing videos, not only aimed at educating potential targets of predators but also aimed at those who offend, a very nice warning of the consequences of preying on vulnerable children.

To stop this problem from becoming more pervasive than it is, we need three elements coming together. We need education, we need prevention, and we need enforcement. Project Safe Childhood pulls all those elements together to make sure we are keeping America's children safe.

They could not afford for the truth to come to light so they destroyed the entries in his diary that would've explained Carroll's split with the Liddell family.
• Fact: In the late 1800's in England, adoration of children did not raise eyebrows. Entertaining married women in private quarters and owning a collection of adult porn when you're a Reverend did.
• Fact: There is no evidence that Carroll felt anything stronger than friendship for Alice. Repeat: NO evidence that Carroll was a pedophile in general or that he had feelings for Alice specifically.
• Fact: ALL evidence suggests that Carroll was actually just a normal person and the myth that he was a pedophile is the means the family used to hide the deep, dark family secret.....that Carroll was an adulterer at worst.
• Fact: Carroll took Alice's older brother Harry out on the same rowboat years before Alice. This was not a romantic encounter but something Carroll had been doing to entertain the Liddell family for years before he ever took Alice.

The family hid his secrets hoping to protect his reputation. Unfortunately they unwittingly played into the hands of an even more sinister gang than British aristocracy - pedophiles.

Indeed if all available evidence is considered in context then this day to celebrate the love of Carroll's would more aptly be named Lorina Day for Alice's mother.

Of course fans and scholars alike have recognized that there is no evidence Carroll was a pedophile. But there's always a *certain* kind of person who will just never get it.

Back in December we talked about pedophiles trying to legitimize their perversions. We said

Pedophiles try to legitimize their perversion by calling themselves child lovers. Boy lovers or girl lovers for those 'exclusively' attracted. Some prefer the term minor attracted adult. MAA. They don't particularly like the term baby raper. They prefer intergenerational sex, as though softening the sound of it will improve their reputations.

We need to never, ever use those words. They are pedophiles! They are child molesters, baby rapers, soul thieves, manipulators, liars, pedovores and pedofreaks. They are freakopaths, creepazoids, monsters, predators and destroyers of children. Pedophiles are many many things, but there's one thing they're not and that's child lovers.

And here we talked about how Jan Kruska was linking to a pedophile website and promoting pedophile propaganda, repeating pedospeak on her website with the very clear intent of normalizing pedophilia. To summarize, this report was a study of arousability, the results of which were that some men were simply more easily aroused that others. But Jan links to what she apparently believes is the actual report itself when in actuality it is a pedophile website and a pedophiles interpretation of that report. "This study is probably the most comprehensive scientific study investigating pedophillia." This was not a study of pedophilia, nor did it claim to be. It was a study on arousability only. One would think an ethical writer would read the ACTUAL report rather than relying on filthy pedophiles to interpret it for you. The key word here being ethical. Or perhaps it's just someone with an agenda.

The results of surveys like this smash any theories that pedophiles are but a small minority. Combine this with what we know about internet habits and other factors and you no longer have a minority, like the gay community, you have a huge silent majority. Surveys like this suggest that something like 8 or 9 out of ten men are sexually attracted to young girls as well as women. Shocking? Not really. Women have known that instinctively for years. Women would pay a fortune for the skin, sparkling eyes and body of a 10-year-old. This is not an effort to undermine women - shapely women will always be attractive to men. It is those with slim girl-like figures however, that receive many times more attention.

That's just one of the many harassing emails I've received. Attached to it were several posters this person had made accusing others of being a child molester, a child pornographer etc. We discussed all that HERE

So I do find it interesting that some people don't know when to stop. But then we already knew how they were didn't we? This one I received this morning though is quite helpful because it gives me a chance to clarify a bit more Jacey's post from yesterday


These are the facts. Lindsay Ashford supported that statistic. He linked to eadvocate for support. I won't link to a site that has such convoluted, twisted and concocted propaganda. But, since Nightmare here was so ahem helpful to post the entire entry into the email and inform me that I needed a statistics book for Dummies, I'm going to break it down even further.

Number one rule of thumb. You cannot take a statistic that measures one thing and apply it to something that it doesn't measure.

In 1994 victims reported 432,750 incidents.

This tells us nothing regarding the recidivism study. What it does tell us is that in 1994 victims reported 432,750 incidents. We don't know how many of those actually occurred. We don't know how many resulted in an arrest and we don't know how many resulted in a conviction. All we know from that is 432,750 incidents of victimization were reported in 1994.

The DoJ reported 3.5% of those sex offenders released were RECONVICTED for another sex crime, within 3 years, following their release. (DoJ Pg-24) see note below.

Accordingly, in 1994 victims reported 432,750 incidents. In 1994 3.5% of sex offenders released from prison (those who had previously committed one or more sex offenses) committed another sex offense (recidivated within 3-years of release).

This is two different reports measuring two different things. Again, you cannot take one measurement and just pick something else to apply it to, that it did not measure. This is spin. This is what pro child sexual abuse people do. This is what Lindsay Ashford did. This is what Jan Kruska did. This is what Tom Madison did and all the rest of the blame gamers who don't want to take responsibility for their actions.

What the DOJ study said is:

Of the 9,691 released sex offenders, 3.5% (339 of the 9,691) were reconvicted for a sex crime within the 3-year followup period.

The 3.5% figure was only a measure of those 9,691 people. It was not a measurement of the total number of convictions for 1994. It doesn't matter how many convictions there were that year, 5000 or ten million. The 3.5% only tells us that 3.5% of 9,691 were reconvicted. You cannot apply one result to another question. This is so very basic that we can only conclude that these people have twisted the statistics with malicious intent to deceive. There is no other plausible explanation.

"The math: (100% - 3.5% = 96.5%) 96.5% of 432,750 = 417,603 committed by someone other than a former sex offender released from prison.

What more needs to be said?"

Out of 9,691 sex offenders released in 1994, 3.5% of them were reconvicted for a sex crime within a 3 year period. This did not measure the percentage of total convictions for 1994, and it tells us nothing about anyone else convicted that year except that they weren't released the same year as these men. In 1994 there could have been men REconvicted of a sex crime who had been released in 1993, in '92, in '88 or '75 or '67.

You cannot say that 3.5% of sex offenders released in '94 recidivated within 3 years therefore everyone else convicted that year was not already a sex offender. That is WA LA Pedo Logic

Now we've all seen their plans come and go. It always works the same no matter what type of plan it is.

It never fails. Never never never

Yes, it's always the same........A 'new' plan is proposed and discussion commences.

Suggestions for improvement are offered and criticism supplied. Somewhere along the way a flame war begins and the conversation diverges into a little side-bar discussion. Until finally one of them gets banned....for a day, or a week and in some cases a lifetime.

But then they kiss and make up and return to their game of Puff-Up-The-PedoHead.

You can practically watch them change before your very eyes, each of them feeding off each other in a virtual Pedo-frenzy as visions of little girls and boys dance in their heads....until at last.........flourishing in this gang fantasy, a gangster's paradise you might say.......one mighty pedohead fully puffed-up ........grown large and ripe with pedophilic expectation and visions of consequence-free baby rape loudly proclaims:

Hey! It's going to happen! Let's not make our demands merely 'acceptance' and 'tolerance' that might give the impression that we're willing to compromise! We need to go all the way with this.........

That's when the Bitch Slap occurs.

A voice, as yet unheard in this discussion, inserts himself into the heat of their pedo passion........quiet, calm, and seemingly all-knowing he simply says:

Until of course the next plan comes along, which is what we're going to talk about now, because I think Nickless just might be onto something.

His plan first tells us why traditional methods of activism won't work for pedophiles:

1. No empathy exists for pedophiles
2. Required anonymity
3. Lack of unity due to morality disagreements amongst pedos
4. Lack of agenda dependent upon #2
5. Lack of money
   

Oh dear. No one will feel empathy for a group of child molesters who won't admit what they've done is wrong and are actively campaigning to make it legal so they can do it again....and again. The lack of an agenda, the lack of unity should be a sign that even amongst these slime-dwelling perverts there a few who know better!

But on to his new plan. Nickless says pedos should keep quiet about injustices they feel are perpetrated against them........the better to live their lives peacefully... going on about.... doing the things they do. He says that pedos nearing the end of their lives should not go quietly into that good night, they should instead go out with a bang, a big pedo bang. Plan their own deaths, write snail mail letters ahead of time explaining how wrong how very wrong everyone is about pedophiles. So:

• Make your end of life arrangements
• Write pedo terror letters to ensure your survivors suffer a little more
• Choose a target and proceed without cowardice

  "You don't act like cowardly Muslim terrorists who attack markets, malls, schools, etc.; rather you target those gatherings and institutions that are enemies of MAAs. Now I'm not advocating violence against those targets, mind you -- THAT would likely be a violation of Rule #6. I must leave it to each of you to be creative in coming up with a target activity that will get media attention if successful, and the more media attention, the better. Think of your plan as a "major media event".

• Letters should "detail the wrongs and grievances you have suffered as a pedophile, and a list of changes that society should enact to alleviate such suffering for future pedophiles."

So what do the other nodding pedo heads think about it? Let's start with Slvrspun the notorious, calculating green-eyed monster who doesn't understand why society won't let him sodomize little boys and who was convicted of stalking a young boy.

Slvrspun constantly threatens against those he feels wronged him....and even against those that don't know him. Presumably even children.

• Public media, such as movies, plays, radio, podcasts, and journalism, that promote children's sexual freedom and loving physical intimacy between adults and children

And the reason to get the media attention is to make sure those snail-mail letters get published also, and so people start discussing those ideas.

You are going to die anyway, so why not make such death a positive act of protest rather than merely dying at the whim of fate? Repercussions only fall on the living, not the dead.

If a woman goes into a downward-spiraling fit of hysterics, how do you snap her out of it? That is correct... you slap the bitch in her face!

Nickless just keeps repeating that the purpose of this is to get people to read pro-pedo propaganda, and he's encouraging his pedo brothers to commit suicide for that reason, vengeance, and assurance that all pedo brothers to come will have what he didn't. I can't for the life of me figure out WHY? Why, Nickless, why? You cry and whine if an Anti says

Facts According to Jay Part 6

Jay Baskins, see HERE, tells us about this little thing called A FACTOID, which he defines as:

A statement of presumed fact that people believe to be true because they hear it repeated over and over

FACTOID # 6

Minors never feel positive about their relationships with older partners if there is a sexual component in that relationship.

Jay states that the ACTUAL fact is:

Heinz Kohut, the founder of "Self Psychology" and one of the most important psychological theorists of the 20th Century reported that "I had this private tutor, who was a very important person in my life. He would take me to musems and swimming and concerts and we had endless intellectual conversations and played complicated intellectual games and played chess together." They also did sexual things together, which they both enjoyed, but Kohut felt the sex was more or less incidental. The important thing for him was the relationship. (Stozier, 2001. "Heinz Kohut: The Making of a Psychoanalyst" pp 95, 96)

Oh dear. First let's look at the way it's written here. There's quotes. There's non-quotes. I'm not going to bore you with the rest of this dribble, but just want to say that it's all like this. Quoting Kohut. Non-quotes with the appearance of quotes anytime sex is mentioned. Typical.

Nevertheless, I suppose we should look at Kohut and see what we find. Let's start with Strozier himself. Some of the things Jay forgot to tell us when he explained how wonderful Kohut's experience was at the hands of his childhood molester.... In addition to the fact that he writes about Kohut's problems with "frequent... addictive masturbation accompanied by masochistic fantasies" Strozier writes:

It may be that Kohut (who minimized the exploitative nature of his tutor's actions) was deluded about the nature of his own victimization and confused about the way tender feelings are often an integral part of exploitation. pp 25-26

And while we're on this topic let's also look at what Dr. Freda Briggs Emeritus Professor and qualified expert in the field of child sexual abuse has to say:

"Men who normalize their own experience of sexual abuse, may be more likely than other victims to perpetuate the abuse".... Ryan (1989) has suggested that repression of the traumatic aspects and acceptance of the pleasurable aspects of sexual abuse often leads to victims defending against the effects of their own abuse...

"...perpetrators who discounted the effects of abuse on their own lives also discounted the damage they did to other children; they rationalized that boys liked and wanted what they did to them"... [pp. 231-232]

Dr Bruce Perry writes:

Evidence suggests that the negative psychological impact of child sexual abuse persists over time, often into adulthood. Potential long-term effects of child sexual abuse include depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, sexual dysfunction, and substance abuse.
Further, among the female adult outpatient population, individuals with sexual abuse histories as children were twice as likely to attempt suicide than their non-abused counterparts.
Across the lifespan, individuals who were sexually abused as children are four times more likely to be at risk for developing a psychiatric disorder and are about three times more likely to abuse substances than their non-abused counterparts.
It is estimated that approximately one third of child sexual abuse victims experience PTSD as adult survivors.
Among women whose abuse involved penetration, an increased risk associated for the development of PTSD is experienced, resulting in about two thirds of this population developing PTSD at some point during their lifetime.

Now let's jump over to one of the pedovores message boards and see if we can get any insight there. Turtle, who is just a treasure trove of outrageous statements says this:

so why do i read posts by angry "christian" women that go on and on about how sick and evil it is and how their lives were ruined? are you that weak minded? do you have to find someone else to blame for your own personal failures? it was one event, it shouldnt ruin your life. kids in other countries live through much worse. stop whining, and put the blame where it belongs: on your own shoulders. sex is a beautiful thing and only becomes perverted when you decide that it is perverted.

i had a young girl ask me once why it is called sexual abuse ... i told her it is because people want to believe that all kids are too stupid to know the difference

And they think we don't know how to educate our children and they do? Right.
But I'm not through with turtle. turtle gets into a discussion abut responsibility, about the true abusers of children

it is possible that some people dont know the right from wrong,but that is rare,and it is used as a defense all the time. if you put your rights and desires above the rights and desires of someone else then you are a harmful person and need to be dealt with. people know what is expected of them from society,regardless if they agree or not. when you harm another person it doesnt matter if the law is there or not. it is wrong,and you know by instinct. when you hear her screaming and crying and then see the blood you should know it is wrong. if you are so sick that you think that is perfectly acceptable then you need to be neutralized with extreme predjudice.....

Well FINALLY, turtle and I agree on something. Unfortunately, he keeps talking

what is the alternative? allow him to keep doing it because his needs are more important than the victims? i think not. and when they do that it just makes it harder for true childlovers. its used as justification for sweeping laws....

He even tells us a 'why' for his attraction

i am attracted to girls because of the way they feel, smell, sound, look, and taste

So princesplaff gets in on the discussion and explains

pedophiles love children, in every sense, so if someone rapes a child they cannot be a pedophile.

Now, what was that again, turtle? Above when you said you weren't abused? And yet now you say:

.... evidence suggests that i was a pedophile from birth, before i was abused

Of course what the pedovores call abuse and what the rest of society calls abuse are two different things. turtle clarifies what should happen to people who abuse 'the innocent'

emotional distress is not an excuse for assualting innocents. either lock them up for life or put them out of their misery if they cant be cured. at least then they would be at peace,and that is good for us and them. the suffering would be over. how can people condone and talk about suicide because they are in so much pain and then in the same breath say it is unfair to put an insane person out of their misery? death is not a punishment,but a release. i have no desire to rape or murder,but if i did have such agonizing compulsions and couldnt stop i would hope and expect someone to stop me,one way or the other....
