Are we Humans smart enough to save our children?

In Florida   Donald J. Smith is a prime example of how we need to change the laws in the US in every  State regarding sex offenders.

"The man charged in the killing of an 8-year-old  had just been released from jail May 31.
Police said they made contact Friday morning with Donald James Smith, 56, who is a registered sex offender, at the home on Segovia Avenue, where he is registered. It was a routine address verification, according to Detective Mike Williams.
Smith lived within walking distance from Dupont Middle School. Police said there was no restriction on him living that close to a school because he was a registered sexual offender, not sexual predator."

He took her on June 22, 2013,  Not even a month after being released for his prior crime against a child!

I fail to understand the 'difference' as he was using predator behavior and killed a little girl.

What is wrong with the State of Florida?  Why can't they get it right?

"Williams said Child's mother met Smith at a Dollar General on Edgewood Avenue West about 7 p.m. Friday. Two younger children, 4 and 5 years old, were also there and remain in the mother's custody.
Smith offered to buy food and clothes for child's family at the nearby Walmart, Williams said. The family was in the Walmart for a couple of hours, he said.
The mother agreed to let Cherish go with Smith to the McDonald's inside the Walmart. The two did not return and the mother called police. "

I won't go into the blame game here but to highlight the fact that pedophiles prey on women who are desperate and or seem easy to manipulate.
This is why so many sex offenders and pedophiles get to molest more and more children and as we see kill them.. because there are too many unprepared parents having children.  We cannot do anything about this as they will procreate anyways.

We need to offer more help to young Mothers and those who do not have support systems in place so that their children will not have to pay the price for their unprepardness.

"Smith also served prison time for attempted kidnapping and lewd and lascivious assault on children. The first time he attempted to lure a 13-year-old girl into his van and chased her as she ran away. The second time involved Smith trying to lure two girls into his van with pornographic magazines, according to Times-Union archives".

How sad that he wasn't held accountable for life after committing the first crime!

We need to change the laws!! We need to protect our children!!

Pain Invalidates?

Saturday, May 24, 2008

I've kept an eye on a certain forum lately, and I've noticed this phenomenon that I've never really seen before. Maybe it's because I haven't been in court much. Maybe it's because I've never seen sex offenders go head to head with victims in a practically unmoderated forum. It's not like the comments on AZ, where we can moderate comments, and tell someone that they WILL NOT talk to a victim like that. It's full-on warfare.

This phenomenon is using the word "pain" as an insult. The sex offender activists very often "call someone out" by saying she or he is in pain. I could find you a thousand screen shots of it. It goes like this:

The victim expresses an opinion about the RSO laws. The RSO "blames" the victim for being in "pain" and "needing help," in order to try to invalidate what the victim is saying.

As if pain makes a person stupid, or less capable of having opinions, or less capable of being RIGHT.

And that's the reason they use it that way. They want to prove that they're right, no matter what it takes. If it takes resorting to using a victim's pain as a tool to try to turn that victim into someone with worthless ideas or opinions, so be it.

What they need to realize is that they're doing it all wrong. For many of us, pain keeps us going. Pain makes us strong. Pain focuses us. It's become familiar, after all.

But, using pain as a weapon? It's manipulative, immoral and it's disgusting. It's insidious, and it's designed to knock the victim back to a place where he or she feels helpless.

We're not, though. And we will prove it to you. Time and again, if we have to.

Sound familiar?

Recovered memories of childhood abuse -From Thrivers

Monday, March 03, 2008

Article By:Jane Rowan

Why are memories of abuse so often hidden? This is a really hard question for people in recovery from abuse, for therapists, and for researchers. In my case, I didn't recognize one of my early childhood memories as a memory of abuse until I was in my fifties. Then physical memories started to come back to me, memories that led me to know my father had sexually abused me. How could such a big betrayal remain hidden in the back corners of a psyche for years and years? Can we really believe memories that have been hidden so long?

It's very common for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to suppress the memories. (Studies say from 30% to 60% of survivors experience loss of memories of abuse.) When the memories come back up, they are often in fragmentary form-a touch, a feeling of nausea, a smell, a fraction of a scene. This fragmentation has a physiological cause. The stress hormones released during frightening events suppress the hippocampus, a part of the brain vital for integrating memories. And of course, we don't get social reinforcement for recalling such things-in fact, we are forbidden to speak of them and to make them real through sharing.

The book that helped me the most with the question of recovered memories was Betrayal Trauma, by Jennifer Freyd. Freyd explains that forgetting is functional for the child because it enables her to remain in contact with the family that is essential for her survival. The closer the relationship with the abuser, the more important it is to forget the abuse in order to keep that relationship working, problematic though it is. Freyd found clear scientific data showing that kids whose abuse was reported to authorities often forgot it for years. The closer the relationship to the abuser (father vs. cousin, for example), the more likely the forgetting.

Isn't that stunning? Yet it makes total sense. I had to keep eating cornflakes every morning opposite my father and relying on him for food, learning-and yes, love. I could not allow myself to remember the abuse in the night.

Over time, I've come to believe the memories brought to me by my inner child more and more firmly. They are not as clear as "Kodak moments," but they are true.
