Pidel pleaded guilty on June 15, 2004, and admitted that he took sexually explicit images of a nine-year-old boy between 1999 and 2003 and that he had engaged in oral sex with the child. Pidel also subscribed to an Internet site that contained images of male minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.This wasn't the first time Pidel had been caught abusing children, in the military, he was convicted of sexual assault charges involving a minor; he was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force in 1994 and spent three years in prison.

At first, after jail, I stayed away from boys as much as I could, hoping it would prevent them from getting harmed, feeling that if I did befriend them that I would risk the past happening again and them being harmed in the process, like before.In 2004, ICE began investigating Pidel's involvement in a website with images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Once charged, he was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors, undergo a mental health examination and register as a sex offender. In 2005, he was convicted of producing and receiving child pornography and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
